We are looking for energetic “intrepaneurs” to join our team to research, develop, and coordinate conferences from initiation to completion for the legal, life sciences, energy, government, healthcare, human resources, transportation logistics, financial, industrial and communications markets.

Responsibilities

Conduct telephone and in person research with potential attendees in a target market to develop conference agendas
Analyze research and use critical thinking to develop commercial conference programs that meet the stated needs of the market
Identify, invite and confirm appropriate speakers for conferences
Write marketing copy for promotional conference brochures, and other mailing pieces
Conduct ongoing research within assigned area to further industry knowledge and develop potential new conference ideas
Establish and maintain relationships with key professionals, industry leaders, senior executives and media within relevant vertical markets
Attend and oversee conferences, including providing opening introduction, speaker assistance and support
Work with and support a cross-functional team on an ongoing basis to ensure successful marketing and sponsorship of conferences
Generate and validate new conference topics in new area in collaboration with management
Skills/Competencies
Conceptual ability to rapidly develop competent knowledge on diverse topics

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with and relate to all levels both within and outside the organization

Employment Requirements

J.D. required
At least 2 years business experience
Skill and experience using word processing programs, email and the internet to perform daily job functions efficiently
An ability and willingness to travel nationally (10% travel)

Executive Certificate in the Business of Life (Sciences)

Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business last year started an online graduate level program, the Executive Certificate in the Business of Life Sciences (ECBLS). George Telthorst, who helps run the program and is the Director of Business Development at the School’s Center for the Business of Life Sciences, wants us to help “spread the word” about it.

The ECBLS is a five course program in the business of life sciences. The program defines life sciences as companies whose products require regulatory approval to be sold and the companies that support them. The courses cover core business skills (i.e., value chain, accounting, finance, organizational and human resource management, marketing) and have been tailored to incorporate industry specific cases, content and examples.

In order to be convenient for those already working in the industry, four of the five courses are offered online and the fifth is a week-long in residence experience here in Indiana. Course credits are transferable to several online masters programs at Kelley and San Diego State University. The program has been designed for technical professionals interested in breaking out of their “silos” as well as individuals new to the industry.

The program kicked off last September. The first cohort has 26 students from 14 companies. Students were drawn from industry leaders in pharma, diagnostics and orthopedics, as well as smaller firms and start-ups. Most of the students are currently in production, quality, research & development, or regulatory roles and have work experience ranging from 4 to 25 years. Two are from one company (Eurand) with operations in Ohio. Two are based outside of the continental United States. The next cohort will start in September 2009.

Growth opportunity available! We are currently looking to add a Patent Agent/Technical Specialist to work closely with our legal staff. Working as part of the team, you can use your current scientific expertise to help with the legal issues that our firm is handling for our clients.

The position involves defining new inventions, providing scientific advice and oversight in patent prosecution matters, preparing patent applications for filing, prosecuting patents, reviewing and researching patent applications and third party intellectual property rights, and assisting with other legal matters. Candidates should have an advanced degree in a biological or chemical field (Ph.D. preferred), with a concentration in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, organic, medicinal or pharmaceutical chemistry, or a closely related field.

For the right candidate, we are willing to hire a specialist without any previous patent experience. Senior Licensing Associate Opening

The Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization at the University of Cincinnati is looking for a Senior Licensing Associate to manage an academic technology portfolio in a multidisciplinary team environment.

The position requires an advanced degree in (MS or PhD) engineering, chemistry, life sciences or related fields along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. A sense of humor doesn’t hurt. Experience with technology licensing and familiarity with patent law preferred.

This is my old office so I can recommend it from personal experience.
