Patent Baristas Ranked Best In Intellectual Property (Again!)

ChambersUSAIn a bit of shameless self-promotion, we simply must announce that the Patent Baristas [1] were ranked (again!) [2] in the 2007 Edition of Chambers USA [3], a publication that rates attorneys and their practices based upon peer and client review.

Chambers USA touts the Intellectual Property Department as known for their “exceptional” attention to detail and impeccable biomedical knowledge. Frost Brown Todd LLC [4] is said to boast one of the top Intellectual Property practices in the region. Clients use adjectives such as “impeccable”, “genius”, “simply superb”, and “quite excellent” in describing Stephen Albainy-Jenei [5], Karlyn Schnapp [6], Steven Goldstein and David Schmit.

From Chambers:

The Firm: As a “quality firm that provides an excellent service,” it is not surprising that Frost Brown Todd’s IP group received glowing feedback from its clients. The team handles its fair share of patent prosecution and litigation and has been undertaking a growing number of patent work in the biomedical field. Indeed, as many of its attorneys have scientific training, the group has proved to be “one of the first ports of call” for biological-related IP matters. The team is also expanding its computer-related IP work and clients in this area include Convergys and LexisNexis. The firm continues to nurture its trademark and copyright practice and has a core group of attorneys who concentrate solely on this area.

The Lawyers: Practice chair Steven Goldstein is considered a force to be reckoned with. Praised for his intelligence, clients appreciate his extensive biotech background as he focuses predominantly on patent prosecution and counseling. He has been intimately involved with developing and executing the global patent strategy for a new product line for client Chiquita Brands International. David Schmit has established “quite a name for himself” over the course of his career. He has cultivated widespread support from his peers for his work “as opposing counsel – he’s always on fine form.” The “genius” Stephen Albainy-Jenei [5] is particularly well known for his biotech background and the experience that he has gained in the field. With a stellar background in chemistry, Karlyn Schnapp [6] concentrates on patent prosecution in the chemical, biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

The qualities on which rankings are based include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness/astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities valued by the client. Editorial comment is also derived from the research, with quotations used when they sum up the prevailing opinion of the market. The rankings and editorial comment about attorneys are independent and objective. Inclusion in the guide is based solely on the research team’s findings. For the current Global directory, over 6,500 of these interviews were conducted covering 170 countries. They were carried out by a team of 30 full-time researchers over a period of 12 months.

Now, if only we could win a Blawg Review Award [7]
